At Great Dogs of Great Falls, we’re more than just a pet store — we’re a part of the Great Falls community. Our journey began 16 years ago when our owner, a former Bloomingdale’s merchandising manager, left the corporate world and began helping part-time alongside the store’s original founder (also a Bloomingdale’s alum). A lifelong dog lover, she quickly fell in love with the business and the loyal clients who make it so special. When the opportunity arose, she took ownership in 2021 after the original owner retired — continuing the legacy of personalized service, trusted products, and heartfelt community care.

We’re a proudly independent, family-involved business — dog lovers through and through — with a team of passionate pet professionals including four groomers (two full-time, two part-time) who treat every pet like their own. From new puppy to senior companion, we’ve been honored to serve our neighbors’ pets through every stage of life.

Featured in Northern Virginia Magazine and trusted by generations of local families, our mission is to provide top-tier grooming, expert nutrition support, and a curated retail experience that mirrors the warmth and care of our in-store team. We also love helping pet parents choose the best food, treats, and supplies for their pups—because healthy, happy dogs are our top priority.

Sonya

Professional Dog Groomer
Sonya has been a valued member of the Great Dogs team for over 8 years. She began her journey with us as a bather and, through dedication and passion, has grown into one of our most trusted and skilled groomers. While Sonya loves working with all breeds, she has a special place in her heart for Poodles—she’s a proud dog mom to four of her own: Nut, Freddy, Cam, and Bibi. A true artist of her craft, Sonya is deeply committed to the grooming profession. She continually studies and refines her techniques to ensure every dog leaves her table looking and feeling their best. Her calm, caring approach and eye for detail make her a favorite among both pets and their owners.

Cara

Professional Dog Groomer
Cara joined us four years ago, highly recommended—and it didn’t take long for her to become family. With over 10 years of grooming experience, she brings expert skill, attention to detail, and a genuine love for her craft. Her kind nature and calming presence make every pet (and their person) feel at ease. This year, Cara and her husband Nathan welcomed a beautiful baby girl. After a short leave, she’s back—and her clients couldn’t be happier to see her return. We’re thrilled to have her with us again.

Luis

Professional Dog Groomer
Luis has been with Great Dogs for three years, and with many years of grooming experience behind him, he brings confidence, care, and a calm presence to every appointment. With a “yes we can” attitude and natural talent, he’s what we call a dog whisperer. He’s known for gently chatting with the dogs as he works—calming nervous pups with a reassuring “You’re okay” or playfully setting boundaries with a “No sir.” Luis doesn’t shy away from a challenge and always brings his best to the table. His dedication, humor, and heart make him a beloved part of the team—and the family.

Michael

Professional Dog Groomer
Michael may be the newest groomer on the floor, but he brings with him a wealth of experience. Quiet and kind, he lets his skill speak for itself—always communicating with pet parents and offering thoughtful grooming suggestions. He’s already built a loyal following, and as a bonus, he’s an incredible baker—his cookies are as much a treat as his grooming talents. Michael is also a proud dad to two adorable pups, Quincy and Peggy, who keep him inspired and grounded both in and out of the grooming salon.

Sarah

Dog Bather & Team Support
Sarah has been with us for almost three years and is our full-time dog bather. She came to us with enthusiasm and a willingness to learn, and over time has truly mastered the art and science of bathing. From choosing the right shampoos and conditioners to perfecting drying techniques, she knows how to make every pup feel fresh and pampered. Though bathing may seem simple, Sarah understands all the behind-the-scenes detail that makes a big difference in a dog’s comfort and skin health. She’s also a regular presence at the front of the store, assisting customers with purchases. Outside of Great Dogs, Sarah is studying to become an EMT for the local fire department—and we’re lucky to have her dedication and positive energy on our team.

Adaly

Front of Store Team Member
Adaly has grown up with Great Dogs—starting as a part-time high school student working a few afternoons a week and on school breaks. Even after heading off to college, she continued to stay connected, and now that she’s transferred to a local school, she’s become even more involved in the day-to-day operations of the shop. Adaly is a familiar, friendly face at the front of the store, helping customers with purchases and supporting the team however she can. While she continues her studies to become a dental hygienist, we’re lucky to have her in the store a few days each week.

Daniela

Seasonal Team Member & In-Store Artist
Daniela also started as a high school student and continues to return during school breaks—and we always look forward to it. She helps in the store and brings her creative talents to life as our in-house artist, designing fun window displays and chalkboard messages that brighten up the space. Her energy and artistic flair add something special every time she’s with us.

Kateryna

Front of Store Team Member
Kateryna is the newest member of the Great Dogs team, and she’s already made a big impact. With exceptional organizational skills and a forward-thinking mindset, she’s played a key role in helping us transition to a digital grooming schedule—streamlining the way we operate behind the scenes. In a short time, Kateryna has learned the ins and outs of our daily operations and quickly become an essential part of our staff. Always looking for ways to improve systems and make things more efficient, she brings fresh energy and ideas to the team. She hit the ground running, and we’re so glad to have her on board.

My regular trip to great dogs is always the best part of my week. They have the most amazing food, treat and toy selection. There’s always something fun and new for my pup to try. When she broke out in a rash, the team at great dogs recommend a whole food, rabbit based diet we had never tried before and our little hound dog has never been happier. Plus Luis is the only person with the magic touch to trim her nails.
